This workshop will examine how a state-level CRA can help meet the demand of the moment by expanding coverage to more financial institutions. This will create the opportunity for significantly more investments in affordable housing production and preservation. 

LGBTQ+ orgs are usually silent on housing policies, especially at the state level. The Queer community has a lot to contribute and the general housing justice movement should also be taking the specific needs of various queer communities into consideration. How can we have folks brainstorm ways, where we can continue to build bridges and improve advocacy efforts.

Workshop will include several homeownership educators and Realtors to break down the process of becoming ready and purchasing your home. You may have allot of questions. Break out tables will allow for everyone to get your questions answered along with foundational information about the process of becoming a homeowner.

The importance of having natural spaces around/in neighborhoods/homes. People need to be able to at least see trees, plants, and flowers. If they want to grow gardens for food there should be access - if not at home, within the community. While research has proven that communities with gardens and green spaces are healthier and happier, the human experience feels this on a deeper level.

Critically examine the housing challenges that queer and trans artists face, emphasizing the need for a labor-oriented strategy to address complex intersectional housing issues. We will identify barriers that compound discrimination for Queer and Trans artists, with a focus on action and strategy in the SF Bay Area.

Youth Leadership Institute invites youth participants from their Central Valley programs to speak about their experiences with housing. From growing up in economic hardship to dealing with housing insecurity as queer people, panelists will draw from their lived experiences and share what’s led them to their commitment to community advocacy. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A with youth panelists to dive further into their experiences.

It's not mainstream knowledge that zoning law, starting in the 1960s, segregated America by family form. Zoning law helped destroy communal living in America to make way for the private, heterosexual, nuclear family form. This has an enduring dampening effect on communal, public-facing, and queer family forms. The Sustainable Economies Law Center has been workshopping zoning policy ideas and transactional strategies related to family abolition, the communization of care, and transforming the built environment. We'd like to workshop them with you!

The program will serve as an intro to providing affirming housing for LGBTQ+ elders. The program will be divided into two parts. The first part will feature a presentation on examples of existing LGBTQ+ affirming affordable elder housing, from CA and across the country, and different steps to meet the housing needs of LGBTQ+ elders. 

The second part will explore the multifaceted experiences of queer individuals who are caregivers for elderly loved ones. This session aims to create a supportive space where participants can share their experiences, challenges, and triumphs in providing care for elders within the LGBTQ+ community or as queer caregivers themselves.

Facilitators will open with a case study example from Tehama County Continuum of Care for affordable housing and homelessness planning efforts and an overview of the City of Fresno’s current planning efforts. Participants will then learn about local/regional plans and civic engagement opportunities, and how to work together in their own neighborhoods to uplift and advocate for the housing needs of Queer communities.

Join us as we process the aftermath and implications of Fresno County’s recent Homelessness Ordinance. We will provide an overview of the legacies that shaped recent policy decisions, Fresno’s rich history in resistance, and strategies towards action & engagement as we walk towards the future together.

Attendees will be offered the opportunity to collaboratively build an “Altar to the Future,” honoring both our collective grief presently & the joy possible in a liberated future.

Discussion with individuals with a variety of roles in the housing development and finance. They will share their experiences being a queer person while working to house people and succeed in their careers while being true to themselves and the community.
